Will the birth control shot give you a false positive on a home pregnancy test?

I've heard that the 3 month birth control shot tricks a woman's body into believing it is pregnant. If this is the case, will those home pregnancy tests say a woman is pregnant even when she is not?

My girlfriend has been on the shot for a little under year and now believes she is pregnant because her regular bleeding has stopped. She hasn't had a period since she began the shot, just small amounts of bleeding on a regular basis. Now the bleeding has stopped and she's having other symptoms of being pregnant.

All of these symptoms have recently begun:

- Feeling Pregnant

- Breast Tenderness

- Frequent Urination

- Nausea / Morning Sickness

So, I am wondering if we should use a home test before seeing the doctor. But if it's going to give a false positive, I don't see the point. Will the birth control shot give you a false positive on a home pregnancy test?
No. Birth control doesn't contain HCG - pregnancy tests test for HCG.

Birth control contains estrogen and progestin or progestin only ... the hormones mimic pregnancy. But obviously, there is no pregnancy and no pregnancy hormone (HCG)Will the birth control shot give you a false positive on a home pregnancy test?
I was on that shot(i would advise she changes...It really messed my body up and is making it very difficult to conceive) and I stopped having periods but a little light spotting.

Its only 99% effective so she could be pregnant even if the guy is using a condom there is the chance. I would suggest taking a hpt the shot will not give it false readings it has none of the same hormones a hpt checks for.

good luck
There really is no such thing as a false positive on a home pregnancy test. The reason that these tests are only 99% effective is because 1 in 100 woman will get a false negative. If she uses a home pregnancy tests and it is positive than she is pregnant.
No it wont. Birth Control does not contain HCG which is what the pregnancy tests for
